There were at least 27 fatalities from Tuesday’s stampede in Hathras, Uttar Pradesh, including 23 women.
The tragedy happened in the village of Mughalgarhi at a “satsang,” or prayer gathering.
“The Etah Hospital has now received 27 dead bodies, including 23 women, 3 children, and 1 man. The injured people are still not at the hospital. Investigations are being conducted further. The identification of these 27 bodies is underway, according to Rajesh Kumar Singh, Senior Superintendent of Police in Etah.
He stated that a sizable crowd had assembled for the occasion.
A committee has been constituted by Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath to look into the event. Adityanath sent his sympathies to the families of the deceased and gave the go-ahead for authorities to arrive at the scene and conduct relief work.
