TVK's requests for a CBI investigation into the Karur stampede was rejected by the Madras HC.

Tamizhaga Vettri Kazhagam’s (TVK) request for a CBI investigation into the Karur stampede that took place during Vijay’s rally on September 2 was denied by the Madras High Court. On Friday, the court rejected many pleas in the case, including one from BJP leader Uma Anandan, who also asked for an investigation into the incident.

Transferring the investigation to the CBI was the goal of both Public Interest Litigations (PILs). The vacation bench, which was made up of justices M. Dhandapani and M. Jothiraman, stated that the petitioners were not the victims of the incident and that the PILs could not be maintained because the probe was still in its early stages.

“We will rescue if those who have been wronged come to this court,” the court declared. Who are you? This court should not be viewed as the political arena. You can return if something goes wrong throughout the investigation. This is the first phase.

A temporary injunction prohibiting political parties from holding public meetings in the state until Standard Operating Procedures (SOP) are established was also ordered by the justices.

Additionally, the court mandated that whenever political rallies and gatherings are held, the government and political parties make sure that provisions are provided for drinking water and sanitary facilities.

Additionally, TVK district secretary N Sathish Kumar’s anticipatory release request was denied by Justice N Senthilkumar. The Court then raised concerns about the party’s inability to manage the gathering and drew attention to the supporters’ disorderly conduct.

41 persons, including women and children, lost their lives in a stampede during a TVK party rally for party president Vijay in Veluswamypuram, Karur, on September 27. Approximately 25,000 people attended the event, which exceeded the area’s capacity of 10,000. Many people fainted in the catastrophic crowd crush as a result of the venue’s inadequate crowd control procedures and the high temperatures.

Karur police filed a formal complaint (FIR) against Vijay and other TVK employees for failing to ensure crowd safety, citing culpable homicide not amounting to murder.
