US President Donald Trump claimed that he believed the conflict between Russia and Ukraine would be the simplest to settle, but he blamed the protracted fight on nations like China, India, and some European countries for continuing to trade with Moscow.
According to the US president, he has been working “relentlessly” to put an end to the “killing in Ukraine” when speaking to the UN Assembly. “Among the wars that I had stopped, I thought this (Ukraine-Russia conflict) would be easiest because of my relationship with Russian President Vladimir Putin,” he stated. The US president went on, “In war, you never know what is going to happen, there are always surprises…”
By continuing to buy Russian oil, China and India are the main financial backers of the current conflict,” Trump claimed. Even NATO nations are “inexcusably” carrying on with their energy commerce with Russia, he continued. “They are funding the war against themselves,” he stated.
Because of its trading relations with Russia, Trump levied an additional 25% penalty tariff on Indian imports. The US government wants India to stop buying energy and defence supplies from Russia. India, meanwhile, referred to the charges as “unjustifiable” and asserted that national interests drove its energy imports.
“Everyone thought Russia would win the war in three days,” Trump stated. He continued, “It was supposed to be a quick little skirmish; this is making Russia look bad.”
Trump asserted that if he had been president of the United States, the war “never would have started” and that Russia has been waging war against Ukraine for more than three years.
Trump stated that in order for the tariffs to be successful, European countries must follow suit, adding that the US is prepared to put another round of “powerful” sanctions on Russia if it does not accept a peace agreement. “European nations must cease all energy purchases from Russia, otherwise, we are all wasting time.”
