Congressman Rahul Gandhi was called to appear before an MP-MLA court in this city on Tuesday, July 26, in response to a defamation lawsuit filed against him for allegedly making offensive remarks about Union Home Minister Amit Shah.
Gandhi was scheduled to appear in court on Tuesday, but the continuing session of parliament prevented him from doing so. In the Lok Sabha, Gandhi leads the opposition.
Kashi Prasad Shukla, Gandhi’s attorney, was in the courtroom and requested a new date for the hearing. Judge Shubham Verma asked Gandhi to appear in person on July 26 after reviewing his application, according to Shukla.
In 2018, Gandhi was the target of a defamation lawsuit for allegedly making offensive comments about Shah. BJP leader Vijay Mishra launched the defamation lawsuit against the Congressman.
On February 20 of current year, Gandhi called off his “Bharat Jodo Nyay Yatra” in Amethi and appeared in court. The judge granted him bail.
