During Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s reply in the Rajya Sabha on Wednesday, opposition MPs staged a walkout, claiming the Leader of the Opposition in the upper chamber was not permitted to respond.
Kharge attempted to step in during Modi’s response to the discussion of the “Motion of Thanks” during the President’s address. But Jagdeep Dhankar, the chairman of the Rajya Sabha, prevented him from speaking.
The INDIA bloc parliamentarians then began to demonstrate by yelling “LoP ko bolne do (let the Leader of Opposition speak)” and eventually decided to leave in protest.
After the opposition began to walk out, Modi declared that “they are insulting the Upper House, the glorious tradition of the Upper House” and that “they are running away.”
“Those who do not have the courage to face truth, do not have courage to listen to the answers to questions that were raised in these discussions,” the prime minister added, asserting that the nation was watching and that those who propagate lies lacked the fortitude to hear the truth.
Dhankar claimed that by leaving, the opposition had violated their oath and contested the Constitution. “Khargeji staged a walkout, insulting the office’s oath of office. They turned the Constitution into a farce. He continued, “I hope they reflect.
“I pleaded with them to ensure that the LoP had enough uninterrupted time to speak. They left dignity behind today—they did not leave the House behind. They did not turn their backs on the Indian Constitution today, Dhankar claimed.
